The Netherlands Consumer Authority underlines the importance of international co-operation when protecting consumer interests. Due to increased mobility, technical possibilities and international trade, both consumers and businesses operate with ever less hindrance of borders. Dutch consumers buy domestically as well as abroad from both national and foreign businesses. And the same is applicable to consumers from other countries.
As a result, consumer-law violations more often feature certain cross-border elements. The Netherlands Consumer Authority acknowledges the challenges that arise from these developments and actively strives to have consumer law enforcement develop accordingly, in order for it to remain effective. This requires strong co-operation between the Netherlands Consumer Authority and its foreign counterparts". First and foremost within the European Union, but also with the rest of the world.
