On this page you can find information about the way in which the Consumer Authority deals with personal details which are obtained via this website.
We understand personal details to mean the information that can be attributed to a person, for example a name, a home address, or an e-mail address. The protection of these details is regulated in the Personal Data Protection Act (Wet bescherming persoonsgegevens, WBP). This Act helps to protect the privacy of citizens and also applies to personal details that are collected via the internet.
On the basis of this Act, personal details are only processed if this is explicitly specified. It must also be clear for which reason these details are saved. This means that in the place where you fill in your name or (e-mail) address, the purpose for which your details are to be used must be clearly indicated. Your personal details will only be used for the reason that is given when you provided them. They will also no longer be stored once that aim has been achieved.
The Act has a few exceptions to this rule. The details can, for instance, be used for tracing people, if someone commits punishable acts through the site, or is making punishable comments on the site.
If information profiles are saved on a website, this will be made clear beforehand. The profiles are solely intended to make the website more attuned to the needs of the user.
